How to Find Lost House Keys

02/18/2017 Back To Blog

Forgetfulness is part and parcel of being a human being. One of the things that we keep forgetting is the place where we last kept our house keys. This is how we end up losing our keys and dealing with the quandary of a house lockout. Sometimes, you can lose your keys while you are still inside the house and this prevents you from stepping outside your home, because you know that you can’t leave your house unlocked and unprotected. Under these circumstances, it can be very difficult for someone to retain their composure and think straight. However, if you take heed of the following simple tips, you will do a much better job of retrieving your lost house keys:How to Find Lost House Keys

1) Be Calm and Confident

You need to realize that your house keys do not have legs. Hence, they could not have possibly wandered off on their own. Unless they were stolen or intentionally misplaced by someone, they are probably still inside your home at a corner that you haven’t paid attention to yet. Therefore, keep looking and searching for the keys at every nook and cranny of your home. It is very important for you to remain calm and confident. Without a sense of confidence, you will not be able to focus, and a person who is not focusing is unlikely to spot a missing object. If needed, make a list of all the places where you could have kept the keys before losing track of them.

2) Rewind Your Memory

If your initial search attempt bears no fruit, then it is time for you to take a seat and dig into your memory. Try hard to think about the last contact you had with the keys. If you have a particular place for keeping the keys, try to find out the exact reason why you may not have kept them there. Perhaps, you entered your home and were distracted by the ringing telephone. This could have made you skip the part where you store the keys safely in their usual place. Go back to where your telephone is and look for the keys over there. This is a simple example of how people usually misplace their belongings.

3) Ask for Help

Given how the human brain is wired, a particular set of emotions or a stream of thoughts can make it difficult for someone to spot a missing object. In such a situation, you need an extra pair of eyes. Ask one of your neighbors to come over and help you locate the keys. More often than not, they will be able to find the keys at a place that you kept overlooking. If you still cannot find your keys, then you can contact us to have your locks rekeyed to ensure the immediate safety of your home.
